'Nobody's really talking about Nevada.' Wolf Pack reacts to NCAA Regional berth - Nevada Sports Net

The Nevada baseball team is headed to its first NCAA Regional since 2000, which marks just the fifth trip to the tournament in program history. The Wolf Pack also played in the NCAA Tournament in 1994, 1997, 1999 and 2000, falling in the regional round each time. Nevada's aim is to get to a Super Regional for the first time in school history and must get past Stanford, UC Irvine and North Dakota State to accomplish that, with games starting at Stanford's Sunken Diamond Field on Friday. Here was the Wolf Pack's reaction to seeing its name called during the NCAA Tournament selection show.

Wolf Pack coach TJ Bruce, who is in his sixth season at the helm of the program, said Nevada enters the tournament with a chip on its shoulder.

Nevada coach TJ Bruce

"We've earned it. We deserve it. The best part is nobody is talking about Nevada. We're a top-25 offense. We're a top-25 defense. We have the NCAA leader in batting average and not one word was said to us, so there will be a little chip on our shoulder to put some respect on the University of Nevada."

Nevada infielder Tyler Bosetti

"It's surreal. But I think our team has earned this and we've been working hard all fall and all spring. It's a great feeling. As a part of the Pack, you always want to make your school better than you found it. I think we have a really good team going into this. We have a lot to overcome, but we're going to do great."

Nevada alum Darrell Rasner

"This is phenomenal. I'm proud of these guys. The work they've put in, the adversity they've overcome, just super proud of them. They've come a lot way, and such a classy group. Hard-working guys. TJ always talks about playing in June and for him to be able to pull this off and get these guys ready, it's just phenomenal."

No. 3 seed Nevada, which has won 15 straight Mountain West games, plays UC Irvine in its first game of the double-elimination regional at 6 p.m. Friday. The winner advances to play the winner of Stanford-North Dakota State. Nevada Sports Net will be traveling to Palo Alto and have full coverage from the event.

Stanford will be operating at 25 percent capacity at Sunken Diamond Field with all ticket sales going through the Cardinal's box office. Given the proximity to Reno, the Wolf Pack could have a good showing for the tournament.
