Shortly after arriving at Pitt, Brennan Marion started to expand the Pitt Panther football brand by taking their recruiting map out west.

On the surface, it looked to be a difficult thing to accomplish and maybe even a bit too ambitious.

However, the people who questioned this strategy didn’t know Marion and the skill he has at recruiting and forming relationships with players.

Two of the first players to receive offers from Marion were twin brothers Marcus and Dominique McKenzie from St. George, Utah. The McKenzie brothers arrived in Pittsburgh on Thursday for their official visits to Pitt. From Pitt’s perspective, their attraction to the McKenzie brothers is quite obvious. Both posses elite speed, as they also are track stars at Pine View High School.

Dominique McKenzie arrived in Pittsburgh and didn’t know what to expect since it was their first official visit. When it was time to leave on Saturday, he learned that the Pitt program was special and was blown away by his experience.

“I came with no expectations and was blown away. by the staff, the facilities the culture,” said McKenzie.  “The feel was real. They were organized and have a plan to develop the whole person. I like the deep tradition especially the winning part, team winning and individuals winning.”

“The city was way better than I would have thought. I like how it feels very close knit. I like the shared facilities and how coach runs the program.”

With in-person recruiting being closed for over a year and not opening up until June 1, the McKenzie’s never got to personally meet Marion until this week and it was worth the long wait.

“He’s on a different level,” said McKenzie. “He knows how to teach and connect. He’s real and has a philosophy that I would thrive in.”

McKenzie was more than happy with his experience at Pitt but still plans on making his official visits to Arizona, Virginia and Oregon. With that being said, those schools are really going to have to impress to top Pitt.

“It was tops for me and the reason I decided to do the official visit. It didn’t disappoint at all. I will take other planned visits just to stick to my plan of taking all my visits, but the bar is really high.”
