Discovery has commissioned London- and Cornwall-based factual indie Beagle Media to produce Cornwall Air 999 for its British free-to-air channel Really.
The 10 x 60-minute series, produced during the COVID-19 pandemic, follows the Cornwall Air Ambulance and its team of pilots and paramedics as they race to save lives in the county during one of its busiest-ever summers.
Bridget Sneyd, EP at Beagle, said in a statement: “Taking to skies with Cornwall Air Ambulance has brought many new challenges, not least rigging six cameras to their new helicopter and body cams to paramedics together with a PD on board, all the while dealing with the extra pressure of COVID-19.”
Slated to broadcast this fall, the series is narrated by Cornwall resident Dawn French.
Cornwall Air 999 builds on the success of one of Really’s top performing titles, Helicopter ER, a series about the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, produced by UK indie Air TV.
The series was ordered by Clare Laycock, SVP and head of lifestyle and entertainment brands at Discovery UK and Ireland.
With Sneyd, Harry Anscombe serves as EP for Beagle; Cathy Jones is series producer.
