Former referee Luca Marelli discussed the contentious moments in Inter’s heated 1-1 draw against Lazio yesterday in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radio 24 on the show ‘Tutti Convocati’.

“Immobile’s gesture was clearly a violent conduct. Wrong to think that if it does not materialize it is no longer violent, in this case the sending off is correct.

“Instead, I disagree with the decision of Guida and the VAR on Sensi’s red card. I do not see any violence in his gesture. It is a mutual misconduct.”

“VAR this year practically does not exist and this is not good, we need a middle ground.”

Lazio started the match against the Nerazzurri strongly, before Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez found the opening goal in the 30th minute.

Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic found the equaliser early in the second half, which set up a cagey final 30 minutes in Rome.

First, Lazio forward Ciro Immobile was sent off for violent conduct, before Inter’s Stefano Sensi suffered the same fate 17 minutes later.

Both players will miss at least their next game, with Sensi missing Inter’s clash against Genoa on the 17th September.

The Nerazzurri have continued their unbeaten start to the season, with their first two games ending in wins and now this draw. The club are near the top of the table with seven points, two behind leaders Atalanta.
