Blue Jays GM hopes to add 'another really good player ... or 3' - theScore

Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins isn't hiding his team's desire to acquire impact players this offseason.

"What we'd like to do is add another really good player, or two, or three," Atkins told MLB Network Radio. "We'll see. It's really hard to acquire elite players. This will be another opportunity for us to do it. We'll see what happens. Whether that's in the form of an elite pitcher, or an elite offensive player. Hopefully, we're making the team better in several ways."

Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro said in October the team expects to be active during the offseason and won't be restricted financially. Toronto already re-signed left-hander Robbie Ray.

Marquee free agents such as National League Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer and star outfielder George Springer have been reportedly connected to the Blue Jays. The former teased Toronto as a potential landing spot in early November when he said it "could be a destination."

The team is also reportedly one of the primary suitors for Cleveland Indians All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor.

Toronto made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2016. Ace Hyun-Jin Ryu and outfielders Randal Grichuk and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. are the only players signed to multi-year contracts that extend past 2021. Young stars such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Cavan Biggio are still on pre-arbitration salaries.
