Johnny Timms (right) and his wife Dorothy of Macclenny were recently presented a Certificate of Appreciation by the Jacksonville chapter of the Florida Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) for flying the American flag in compliance with statues.
Among them are that the flag be in good condition, lighted during hours of darkness or taken in before sunset. Presenting the certificate (in Colonial dress) is Larry Scott of the SAR chapter, also a Macclenny resident. SAR is a non-profit, non-partisan society chartered by Congress in 1889 to promote patriotism, preserve American history and teaching it to future generations. Its membership is comprised of descendants of persons who supported independence from Great Britain.
