New York Giants players were extremely mad about the Philadelphia Eagles putting in Nate Sudfeld at quarterback, and the NFL world was just perplexed: why would Doug Pederson replace Jalen Hurts with Sudefeld with a win on the line?
Of course, there was talk of an Eagles tank with the team having nothing to play for. Maybe it was some NFC East trolling of a divisional rival.
Whatever it was, it left the Giants outside looking into the postseason as the 7-9 Washington Football Team beat the Eagles and will head to the playoffs.
Among all the anger was a quote from Giants safety Logan Ryan that’s really correct. New York won six games this season. They didn’t do all that well at the part they could control. What they couldn’t control was Pederson’s decisions and WFT having power over its own destiny.
Here’s what Ryan had to say to NBC’s Peter King:
“Wish I could give you the explosive stuff you wanted,” Ryan said a few minutes before midnight. “There will be a lot of opinions about whether they were trying to win. You want to play the game to win, but I don’t play for the Eagles, I don’t coach for the Eagles. It’s their team. Winning six games doesn’t give us much right to get pissed off about this. We didn’t play consistent enough all year to earn it.”
Seriously. Winning just six games and inconsistent play doesn’t mean you deserve a playoff spot. Control what you can control, and the rest is out of your hands.
