Letter | Editorial correct on moving forward on light rail plan - Santa Cruz Sentinel

Sunday’s Editorial urging the RTC to accept the business plan and pursue funding for clean light rail was excellent. I have commuted from Santa Cruz to Watsonville and back for the last 12 years without a car, due to a visual disability. As a mom, I can’t spend the 1 1/2 hours needed to take the bus, so I take Uber or Lyft, paying $30 each way and polluting each time.

Many Watsonville residents have to leave their young children at 7:15 a.m. to make it to work in Santa Cruz by 9, sitting for an hour in the traffic, spewing out carbon and destroying the planet for their children’s future. We need zero emission light rail ASAP for the health of our planet and for the welfare of all residents, especially the disabled and south county residents and workers. Efficient and climate-smart transportation is a matter of equity.
