It’s no secret that former New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs and former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan weren’t exactly friends.

Their dust-up following a Giants-Jets game in December of 2011 has become the stuff of local legend, but there was actually more to the story. A lot more, as a matter of fact.

During his recent appearance on the “ALL IN NYG Podcast,” Jacobs reveals what was said between the two post-game and how that exchange very nearly led to some punches being thrown.

“After the game is over, I go over to talk to Plaxico [Burress] because, you know, he’s [with the Jets] now and Rex Ryan kind of said something to me,” Jacobs recalled. “‘We’re still going to win the Super Bowl.’ And I don’t know if they still had a chance after that game or not, but he said, ‘we’re still going to win the Super Bowl.’

“I said, ‘well, that doesn’t matter to me if you go win the Super Bowl or not. Look up at that scoreboard up there. You just lost to us.'”

That’s when things began to spiral.

“And he started talking. He came up and braised up to me and like bumped me. I was like, ‘dog, I will really… Really, you got the wrong one. You got the wrong Giants player. I’m slapping you, bro. You better back up. I’m not the one. Everyone else will give you a pass but I’ll whoop you,'” Jacobs continued. “I was really about to punch him in his face. Like, I was really there.”

Jacobs and his former teammate, Ahmad Bradshaw, laughed at the recollection before admitting how sweet it was to beat the Jets.

“It’s a good feeling,” Bradshaw said of beating the Jets. “Like your little brother…beating on them all the time.”

Prior to that game, Ryan had a mouthful to say about then-Giants head coach Tom Coughlin and quarterback Eli Manning. His team also proceeded to cover up the Giants’ Super Bowl murals at the stadium, which set the tone for what was to come.

In the end, the Giants won, 29-14, which was their fifth win in a row over the Jets. And Ryan’s team? They didn’t go on to win the Super Bowl. Jacobs and the Giants did.
