Bears running back David Montgomery has a "really good chance" of being activated off of injured reserve and playing in Monday night's game against the Steelers, coach Matt Nagy said Saturday. He hasn't played since Week 4 when he suffered a knee injury that forced him to the IR.
Montgomery, 24, returned to practice on Thursday, which opened a 21-day window for the team to activate him. The team had been relying on rookie Khalil Herbert and Damien Williams, who has been dealing with his own knee injury of late, in Montgomery's absence.
In the four games he played before the injury, Montgomery averaged 77.3 rushing yards per game while rushing for three total touchdowns. The Bears, who are 3-5, went 1-3 in the four games without Montgomery, including losing the last three.
