Dear Answer Man,
I've received a number of texts recently from a five-digit phone number telling me to "Respond now to the US Census Bureau COVID-19 survey." Is this for real? How did they get my number?
Sincerely,
Texts from Census
Dear Texts,
The Census is indeed texting you, that is if the number reaching out is 39242. The Census may also reach out via email from COVID.survey@census.gov.
They have selected your address to complete the Household Pulse Survey, which was designed in collaboration with the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the USDA Economic Research Service, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the National Center for Health Statistics, and the National Center for Education Statistics.
A limited number of addresses across the country were "scientifically selected to represent the entire population" with this survey so consider yourself lucky!
"Your participation in both this survey and the 2020 Census is important. Completing the Household Pulse Survey does not replace your response to the 2020 Census," the Census states on its website.
The Household Pulse Survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and asks a variety of questions to gauge the effects of COVID-19 on individuals, families, and communities across the country.
So do your civic duty and don't leave the Census unread. Fill out that survey and let your experience be heard.
