Because of continued water quality problems within the Town of Franklinton,  the Louisiana Department of Health has issued an order demanding that the problems be corrected.

The order, sent to all of Franklinton’s elected officials, calls for improvements in the chlorination of the town’s water. The order was also sent to the town’s Public Works department.

Under the terms of the order, Franklinton will be required to improve its water quality and issue reports on the status of chlorination of the water to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Failure to obey the order would result in monetary fines to the town. The Department of Health can levy daily fines for as long as the town is out of compliance.

The town has been having water quality problems for some time now, with concerns about the wells that supply the town’s water system. Some residents have complained to City Hall about both the quality and the appearance of the water that comes out of their faucets.

Franklinton town officials apparently received the order late last week and over the weekend. Once they analyze it and determine their next step, The Era-Leader will follow up with a comprehensive report.
