Max Scherzer felt 'really left out really quick' watching Opening Day games - NBC Sports Chicago

With the Nationals left out of the Opening Day weekend festivities this year due to an untimely outbreak, Washington's starting ace Max Scherzer still made time to watch the games on TV.

"Picked up watching a few games over the weekend. I felt I had to," Scherzer said during his Monday media availability.

A whole 155 days since the MLB's last game when the Dodgers won the 2020 World Series on Oct. 27, Scherzer wasn't going to miss out on the action. But in doing so, the 36-year-old right-hander naturally wanted to be a part of the action after starting the last three Nats' Opening Day contests.

"There's baseball being played and I'm not able to play right now, you feel really left out really quick," Scherzer said. "But yeah just tried to watch some games, see some great plays being made and guys playing at a really high level, that's what you expect in Major League Baseball."

Scherzer and the Nats will get their first taste of high-level MLB action to start their 2021 season on Tuesday against the Braves
