Hospitals Requiring Health Care Workers To Get Vaccinated Are Making The Correct Choice - The Chattanoogan

abaikans.blogspot.com

It was with dismay that I read the commentary on vaccine mandates for health care workers. This is not a new or PC tactic. Many health care facilities have required its employees to get the flu shot for years.  As health care institutions and providers of care to our most vulnerable, we have a duty to provide the safest environment in which they obtain their evaluation and treatment. The high-risk individual with cancer, diabetes or heart failure doesn’t have a choice on who his or her nurse is.

However, I assure you that most would prefer a person who presents the least chance of transmitting this disease of the largely unvaccinated to them in their weakened condition.

Our local esteemed referral hospitals: Vanderbilt, Emory, and UAB have all established vaccine mandates as has the Mayo Clinic. The American Hospital Association and the American Association of Medical Colleges all recommend vaccine mandates for health care workers. Mind you this is not a mandate for truck drivers or Unum employees, but for those us who choose to care for the sick and vulnerable.

So if you’re in need of emergent care or surgery, which type of hospital do you want to go to? The one where everyone stepped up and took the shot or where those that wouldn’t now work.
