Even though Steve Kerr considers the Warriors' 2020-21 season a success, there's no doubt he hoped for better results. He gets a seconds chance at glory this summer in the Tokyo Olympics.
Kerr will be an assistant coach on Gregg Popovich's Team USA staff, and he can't wait for the Olympics to begin.
"I'm really, really excited," Kerr said Friday on KNBR's "Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks" show. "Working with Pop is such a great experience for me. We started doing this two years ago during the World Cup. Even though we didn't win -- I think we finished eighth -- so a disappointing finish, but it was an incredible coaching experience."
Kerr played four seasons under Popovich on the San Antonio Spurs from 1998 to 2001, along with the 2002-03 season, where he won his fourth and fifth championship. While Kerr only averaged 3.7 points per game for the Spurs, he continued to be a sharpshooter from beyond the arc, shooting just under 40 percent on 3-pointers.
Sitting on the bench with Popovich, who now is one of his great friends, isn't the only reason Kerr can't wait for the Olympics to begin. It's the experience with a new group of players, too.
"It was fun getting to know the guys on the team, too," Kerr said. "It's really interesting getting to know players you're only used to coaching against. I'm excited about the opportunity."
Team USA will report to Las Vegas for practice beginning July 2 before games start on July 24.

Steph Curry still is unsure if he will play for Team USA, but the Warriors will be represented in the Olympics. Both Andrew Wiggins and Mychal Mulder will play for Team Canada.
Team USA has won three straight basketball gold medals in the Olympics.
