The Buccaneers’ second-round pick quarterback might not be seen much for a while.
Tom Brady is supposed to play at least a half in the preseason finale on Saturday, and it’s certain that beloved backup Blaine Gabbert will get some time, too. So that leaves nothing but scraps for veteran Ryan Griffin and the rookie, Kyle Trask.
Bucco Bruce Arians said the film showed Griffin was a little better last night than when he struggled in the preseason opener. But talking about Trask injected a smile and warmth into Arians’ voice.
“Kyle, I really like where Kyle is at,” Arians said. “Kyle’s doing everything we’ve asked of him. Some guys need to help him out and catch the ball, too, the guy’s that he’s playing with and get they’re head around. But he’s making good progress.”
Again, Arians really seemed a little smitten with his rookie QB. Barring a wink-wink trip to injured reserve, Trask will make the 53-man roster and the Bucs will stick Griffin on their veteran practice squad, a COVID-season initiative that has been carried over to 2021.
It’s all a great sign for the Bucs’ future at quarterback. (Hopefully not near future.)
