Pinecrest head football coach Robert Curtin spoke to HighSchoolOT reporter Zack Adams after the Patriots' matchup with Corinth Holders at the Pirate Pigskin Kickoff.
here, the pancreas head football coach, robert curtain after the pirate pig skin. Uh Jamboree here coach, what do you think of your guys effort on the highfield scrimmage and then they're in the full field against corn. Yeah, the half field scrimmage was good. It allowed us to kind of clean up some things we need to clean up. We went up against some pretty interesting offense so that certainly tested us in our ability to flex. We don't usually see that wing. T that was nice. Um Again, just give us an opportunity to clean. I like the intensity. I like the discipline. We'll clean some more things up and we'll be okay the full field scrimmage. I thought it was really good. I like that format. It allows us to get, you know, special teams are not hurting anybody. Um I would tell you, we gotta, we gotta do a few more things. Uh you know obviously corn told us is a really good good football team, much like Rocky Mount was like our intensity. I like the way we were able to move the ball and hold the defense. We just gotta, we gotta put all three of those facets of the game together and I think this was a great scrimmage to help us get there. Well who would you say are some key players for Pine Crest on offense, defense and special teams that will play key roles on the field on friday night. Yeah, I mean obviously brody caress our quarterback. We we kind of held him back a little bit. We gave him some some deliberate snaps. We had a deliberate game plan with him. Uh 100 knife and made some really good catches and some good moves are wide receiver. Uh Nigeria Seagraves are running back and Xavier dad looked really good today on defense. I think our D line looks really solid. I think they're getting off the ball well, they're disciplined, they're watching the balls that comes out. Uh and then you know, anytime you have no hard for it out there uh sort of kind of acting as our fuel marshall. Uh you know, that really works out and things things seem to go fluid, more fluid when we put them in the background where he could see and sort of dictate the field. So we're excited. We're excited. Uh We got a big task coming up um and we got to play discipline. We gotta, we've got to do things at the next level to be honest with you that our next opponents gonna be really tough. So we're excited to get them though. So the coach just throughout the summer and uh scrimmages in the past week or so, I just want to say are some strength of this football team, uhh unity. I mean, we're really tight knit squad. Um we really care about each other and I think shows on the football field, you know, everybody is concerned about our midfield or mid season, mid summer if you will coaching changes, but we bring a lot of the coaches back who know and care for the kids, the kids do a great job looking out for each other. Our administration is phenomenal allowed us to just sort of move into things. One of the sort of the untold stories, this here is our senior class. I mean they really have pulled us together. Um, and sort of, they were, there was keeping us moving and I'm excited about that when you can have these young men leading each other and other people know that this is my role and I'm gonna do the best I can here. So I found a question coach of course you mentioned that tough task next week with Roosevelt supposed to say are one or two things that your team needs to clean up going into that week. One matchup. Well, I mean, I think, you know, they've got some, they've got some weapons for sure and you know, we're not going to outgun them, we're not gonna out sex or flash them, but if we maintain our discipline, um, we maintain those things that we know we're good at and force hopefully force them into situations that they may not necessarily want to be in. Uh, those are things we need to clean up, maintaining our outside contain coming off the ball with that quick first step getting in our gaps. Um, but you know, they've got some athletes out there, we're gonna respect them obviously, but we're gonna play pine chris football, you know, we are sort of a tough nosed, you know, grind them out football team and we can't get out of who we are, we're just gonna be who we are and we're gonna let the chips fall, but we're excited to head into Raleigh and take on a team like that. That's the only way we're gonna get better is taking on that caliber team. And they're a classy program, just watching them from afar, they do all the right things. So You know, we're gonna we're gonna fight though, I mean we're not going to drive an hour and 15 minutes and lay down and and I think that's why they scheduled us and we scheduled them.
